topheranddarre asked: So far this summer I've read and adored The Night Circus, The Fault in Our Stars, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, and the Uglies series. I'd also rec anything by Neil Gaiman and The House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. I'm also looking for book recs so if you have any I'd love to hear about it :-)

Ooh i haven’t read the night circus or the house of leaves so I’ll put those on the list! Thanks!

Recs…hmm I highly recommend anything and EVERYTHING by Melina Marchetta. She can be really hard to find because she is Australian, but she is in my public library so you might be able to find her at your local library. Her stand alone’s are AMAZING, but if you really like fantasy I recommend reading her Lumateran Chronicles first. Words cannot describe how fabulous she is.

Someone recommended Delirium by Lauren Oliver (I think that’s her name) and I am really liking it so far.

Other than that, I’m a big oldie and classic fan, the whole Jane Austen, Alexabder Dumas lot, but those can be really slow sometimes.

well what’s on it now? bc i have a list a mile long. so I need something to narrow it down for you. :)
Well I’m gonna be re-reading Emma and Pride and Prejudice because I didn’t have time to read them for my Jane Austen class and I really wanna read them from my professor’s perspective. I’m also reading two Claudia Johnson books on feminist theory within Jane Austen.
Then I’m going to read The Gargoyle because a friend recommended it to me.
And that is it so far.

hmmm. ok. well there’s always ASOIAF.

i’ve been reading a lot of fantasy and fic lately and nothing is coming to mind.

and you’ve read the Infernal Devices books, right? (the The Mortal Instruments prequel series. vastly superior.)

(I’m looking through my book journal now)

ok well Reckless and Fearless by Cornelia Funke are actually REALLY good. like supernatural meets grimm’s fairy tales.

hmm. Well I’d say the Kingkiller Chronicles but the 3rd one isn’t out and it feels really REALLY incomplete and it’s irritating so i’d wait a few years for those.

and then of course anything and everything by Lauren Willig.

oh, and classics: Scaramouche and Captain Blood by Rafael Sabatini.

ok i’ve got nothing else and it’s bugging me. but that’s all for now. :)

Yeah ASIOF is always there, but I kinda wanna get away from it. I’ll probably get back to it around august or something.

I want to read Cassandra Clare’s prequel, but I’ve heard really horrible things that she’s done as a human, and I don’t want to support her books by buying them, so I’ll probably wait to borrow them from the library.

I’ve seen Reckless and Fearless around, but didn’t know if they were any good, but since you’ve recommended them I’ll put it on the list!

Haven’t heard of Lauren Willig so she’ll go on the list as well!

Thanks Tina!!

of course!

and yeah, i read the mortal instruments and 2 of the infernal devices before learning of the plagiarism thing but i have vivid memories of thinking this one character (my fav, of course) was basically Lupin II. like, he’s a werewolf named Luke. PLEASE. (it gets even worse) and the villain is totally a wannabe voldemort and Jace (who i LOATHE more than most characters EVER btw) is (upon reflection) a Draco Malfoy clone with more petty cruelty. it’s ridiculous.

BUT the prequel series is actually fantastic. so i do recommend those. but yeah for sure don’t buy them.

and HOW HAVE YOU NOT HEARD OF LAUREN WILLIG?!?!?! JORDAN AND I HAVE READ THE WHOLE SERIES LIKE 5 TIMES THROUGH!!!

(the Pink Carnation books)

and yeah, my roommate had Reckless and let me borrow it and it caught me off guard by how good it was. and the sequel just came out about a month ago. made my week. :D

and ok, slightly random, Cinder and Scarlet by Marissa Meyer are really interesting retellings of Cinderella and Little Red Riding Hood, respectively. they’re set in the same world and the characters interact and it’t futuristic sci-fi and i just really like them. (Scarlet came out, like, yesterday. and i read the whole thing lol yeahin about 3 hours.)

yeah the plagiarism is one thing, but I just couldn’t buy another book after the whole cyberbullying incident. i most DEF will not be buying her stuff like…ever.

Lol, I guess I wasn’t paying attention when you guys were reading them! I heard “Pink Carnation” in passing, but never really looked it up or anything, but it is going on the list.

I have to go visit my grandmother on my mom’s side and I am DREADING the encounter.

I’m not a big fan of my grandmother on account that she is a big fat contributor to my low self-esteem growing up (I was the black sheep of all her granddaughters and she didn’t like that I was smart, introverted, and bookish), and I will always resent her for that.

But anyway, I am all for diplomacy in the eyes of the public, but I still couldn’t help having this conversation with my mom when she told me we had to go see her because she just flew in from Panama.

Mom: “Before we get coffee, let’s go visit Grandma.”

Me: “Why?”

Mom: “Because she just got here!”

Me: “Can’t we Skype her?”

Mom: “Priscilllaaaaaa…..”

Me: “What?”
